Steampunk Inspired - Digital Collage

This weeks theme at Sunday Postcard Art is "Steampunk Inspired."

I hope this is steampunk enough for ya (click to view larger).  ;-)

My mind had a little fun with this one and I turned the hotair balloon into a big fish tank, cuz really, who wouldn't like to float in the air with a bunch of fish to gaze at, right?

Ahhh well....I must be daydreaming about the honeymoon we have yet to take.  I could really use a vacation and really wouldn't mind gently gliding in the air across the world.

Odd Bods - 1st Journal Page

This weeks theme over at Sunday Postcard Art is "Odd Bod."

Can you tell what I used for the base of the bod?  hehe.

So, for this challenge, I decided to do another 180 (have I done a full circle yet???  haha) and tried my hand at Art Journaling.  I am now officially completely out of my box and in unfamiliar territory...but, I wanted to step outside of my digital art world and see what else is out there.

So this is technically my 1st page.  :-)
So far I'm pleased with how it turned out...although I'm not done.  The page on the right I have a design in my head and then will leave most of it open so I can actually WRITE my journal page.
I wanted to post the pic though, at least that side is done!
Phew!

I do have a goal to fill up this journal, but I'm being nice to myself and saying I'd like to have it completed by Christmas...of next year.  2011!  So we'll just have to wait and see if I can reach that goal.

I didn't really modify any sources like I do in my digital art.
The head...well, that's me!
The rest would be stamps, distress ink, poster ink sharpie, colored pencil,  paper, glue....hmm, and I think that's it.

I'm kinda pokin fun at myself cus I feel like a puppet right now.  I'm so scatter brained and all over the place...at this point, just having others tell me what I should be doing as I work full time, take care of family full time, try to satisfy my parents with visiting and letting them see their grandchild, cooking, cleaning, paying attention to the fiance....and planning my October wedding!
EEEK, I'm running out of time.
At least I finally got the flowers all picked out today - and boy was I brain dead after that meeting...so many questions!

...it's all slowly falling in to place tho.  I did wake up in the middle of the night last week and said "D'OH."  I completely forgot about the actual marriage license.  DUHHHH!!! So to calm my middle of the night freak out, I got up, raced to the computer, got on to the county website and quickly searched for marriage licenses and how long it will take to process....and realized, oh, it will only take 30 minutes.  Double Phew!  Plenty of time for that...now I just need to coordinate my fiance and my schedule so we can have a couple hours to get our butts down to the county and show them the proper ID so we can get that taken care of...but, m'eh....I'll do that next month!

...and yes, my actual written journal page will be something along those lines, haha.
Hope you like my in progress "odd bod" journal page.

XOXO

Houses - Digital Art

Created for Sunday Postcard Art's challenge "Houses."

I was listening to Beyonce's song "Halo" and started thinking about falling angels for some reason.  So...I went with it and created this piece.  I've been referring to it as "The Fallen."

This is not a house I would want to live in...

Hope you like it  :-)

Mirror - Digital Collage

This weeks theme at Sunday Postcard Art is "Mirror."

The text in the scene reads "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

This topic got me thinking about how woman view themselves
and what society has deemed "beautiful."

I've known a few people who have let their self image break them and
watched as they've struggled with re-learning how to love themselves.

My image is based on those I've know through the years that couldn't
see their own beauty, even as it stared back at them though the mirror.

Oriental - Digital Collage

This weeks theme at Sunday Postcard Art is "Oriental".

I decided to take her out of her usual environment and "freed" her so she could express herself!

Loved every minute of this collage creation as I attempted a slightly looser style. ;-)

I must say, I found a MUCH easier way of keeping track of the elements I use.
Before, I put my pieces together all willy nilly, then back tracked and tried to remember
which collage sheets I used.

Then I started trying to keep track of them in a word document,
and included them in my blog...but I have so many posts now
(and have truly enjoyed all of these challenges),
but realized as I created my Etsy shop that it was kind of time
consuming to back track through all my posts trying to find my sources...

So being that I use Photoshop most of the time now,
I figured there HAD to be some way to keep track.
So those of you that use photoshop that don't know,
you can go to File, File Info, Description,
and there are several sections you can write in.
I keep my list in the copyright notice section.
Then when I need to grab my sources they are all right there in my digital file.
...and voila! Less headache. ;-)

Steampunk - Digital Collage ....plus more!

This weeks theme at Sunday Postcard Art is "Steampunk"

So here's my creation, hope you enjoy!

In other news...guess what I got in the mail yesterday???
An original collage by Marsha Jorgensen over at TumbleFish Studio.
I've been following her for a few months now, and truly admire her work, so I came across
a few extra bucks and was able to purchase an original.

This is the one I got:

I'm so happy with my purchase. I love love love it and can't wait to hang it on a wall.
Looking at her image in person was just so much better, such vibrant colors!

It also really inspired me and I spent the weekend "attempting" collage.
Like...non digital collage. With glue and everything!!!
I'm so proud of myself.
I really hate mess. I hate being dirty.
I absolutely can't stand when I have gunk on my hands!
...and that has held me back as far as art is concerned...and why I've stuck with digital.

So for me to pull out paper, scissors, and glue...well...it's HUGE for me, LOL.
I am working on an Alice in Wonderland type of piece (minus a real Alice...)
I did 2 already, but I messed them up.
The first one I wasn't paying attention to my digital layout and glued images in the wrong areas,
So I started over and glued it all down correctly...but then my paper started to warp...
So silly me thinking the glue was all dry, I dumped a bunch of books on top to get it to flatten out.

Any sane person would do this right??? (you really don't have to answer that ;-) )

Yeah...wrong move.
Checked on it in the morning and, uh, yeah...
Glued to the back of the book and some of the color rubbed off.
So....that went into the trash and I started over.

Third times the charm!
I was trying on wedding dresses for the majority of the day so I didn't get to finish,
but I'll at least show you the one I screwed up on so you guys can see.

Yes....my perfectionist little butt that hates getting dirty shall share my error...
...but it was a good learning lesson!!
I now have figured out the proper steps to achieve the results I desire.
For the most part.
I may need to write it all down so I remember for next time, LOL.
As hard as digital collage is, it's SO much easier in other ways.
I can erase!
I can delete layers I don't like without having to worry about if glue has set...

So anyway...

I will hopefully be able to share the finished "corrected" copy soon.
I want to do my Steampunk image as a non digital collage too since I'm totally in love with it!
We'll see though. That may be a huge challenge I'm taking on.
HAHA.

Oh well.
Here's the very first one I did...as you can see, it's a little off and not quite right, but I did learn my lesson. ;-)

...and here's the digital layout so you can see the difference...
In the end it was too "busy" so I took out a couple elements for the actual collage.

Eyes - Digital Collage

Print Available

Hello! Found this challenge site via other bloggers and thought I'd jump in and participate. :-)

The topic for this weeks theme at Sunday Postcard Art is "Eyes."

I've heard people say that eyes are windows to your soul. I've often thought this and have made it a habit of looking people directly in their eyes. It's unnerving for some, but I feel like I get a better sense of the person by looking into their eyes and essentially down into their soul.

Look in his eyes and see his soul

"Look, but don’t stare!
You'll be Caught and my death stare I should care.

Look in his eyes and see his soul.
His soul is red like the sea.
He speaks darkness, no love nor light.
His love is death, his hate is life.

His soul tell the truth, it doesn’t lie.
He tries to run, but he can’t hide.
His eyes they tell no lie.

They say if you look into ones eyes, you'll see his soul.
I have look in his eyes and seen the world; it’s cold.
Death was told, stick a needle, and his eyes, his world is cold.
If I see the light, would it be bright like the star at night."
